Mission Statement: Vandeventer Black LLP, its partners and staff, together with the Vandeventer Black Foundation, provide support to a broad range of community and charitable organizations. Such support is provided through a combination of direct giving, membership, and attendance at functions. These organizations include:

2012 Events

February 4, 2012: Polar Plunge

The Polar Plunge® Winter Festival is Special Olympics Virginia’s largest fundraiser, attracting more than 10,000 people to an otherwise deserted beachfront in February. Individuals and teams experience heartwarming and bone chilling extremes as they take the plunge into the icy Atlantic Ocean in the height of winter!

April 2, 2012: Legal Food Frenzy: Vandeventer Black is pleased to announce for the second year in a row, the Firm has been awarded the “Chesapeake Bay Blue Crab Award” after finishing first in the state (large firm per capita) in the annual Legal Food Frenzy Drive raising 463 pounds of food per person for 2012 between the firm’s Norfolk and Richmond offices. The Legal Food Frenzy is an annual food drive, which collects food and donations to help the Virginia food banks. Law firms collect non-perishable food items and raise funds to support food banks at a time of year when they have had historically low support.

May 22, 2012: Hampton Roads Go Red For Women Executive Breakfast. The first Go Red Breakfast was held at The Westin in Virginia Beach bringing to light the importance of the seven key factors essential for ideal heart health and inviting women executives to become a part in raising awareness and funds to fight the number one killer of women.

July 14, 2012,  Hot Latin Nights is a celebration of great music, fantastic local food and fabulous auction item all to benefit VOLUNTEER Hampton Roads to improve the quality of life for all who live in our community.

August 10, 2012: Back-to-School Campaign.  Employees of Vandeventer Black gathered at Homeland Contracting to assemble backpacks and supplies for children in need served by Tidewater Youth Services Foundation. Nearly $10,000 in school supplies were donated in this effort. The initial goal of 150 filled book bags was surpassed and 172 FILLED Book Bags were delivered to Tidewater Youth Services. Tidewater Youth Services is a community-based regional organization that offers therapeutic services, which provide advocacy and assistance to youth and their families, as they struggle through the awkward and sometimes troubling transition to adulthood.

September 14, 2012: United Way Day of Caring  was established in 1991 to promote the spirit of volunteerism, increase awareness of local human service organization and demonstrate how people working together for the common good can accomplish great things. Day of Caring is a fun filled day of hard work, excitement, and neighbors helping neighbors to help build and maintain a stronger South Hampton Roads community. On Friday, September 14, 2012, VB’s Giving Back team worked effortlessly at Ingleside Elementary School assisting in painting projects and working with the second grade teachers in assembling educational game packets for the students. 

October 13, 2012:  The Komen Race for the Cure Series raises significant funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer, celebrates breast cancer survivorship, and honors those who have lost their battle with the disease.  VB’s Embrace the Race team participated in Komen Tidewater Race for the Cure.  Congratulations to Vance Tysor and Andrea Heyward for making the Pink Honor Roll 2012-2013 Top 50 Fundraising individuals.  Vance placed 6th by raising $2,335.00 and Andrea placed 34th with $1,035.00 contributions. 

November 2012:  Harvest for the Homeless  gives everyone the opportunity to bless the less fortunate with their generosity.  In 2011 Harvest for the Homeless, NPBA members collected over 270 bags of clothing and toiletries. In our last Harvest drive we donated 10 bags of winter clothing and toiletries.  This year we hope to double the number of bags.     

November 17, 2012: The Carter Gunn Memorial STRESSBUSTER is a 8K Cross Country race along historic, scenic & rolling trails of First Landing State Park. The Carter T. Gunn Fund is part of the Vandeventer Black Foundation and is dedicated to fighting depression and to educating the public about mental health. An estimated 1 out of every 10 adults reports suffering from depression. Some studies suggest 20% of women and 12% of men will be clinically depressed during their lifetime.   Of the 34,000 suicides in America each year, 90% are preceded by a treatable form of depression. Vandeventer Black Giving Back is proud to be a participant in this race each year.

November 17, 2012:  Family Volunteer Day is an international initiative of the Points of Light Institute and HandsOn Network to work with families, businesses, nonprofits and volunteer centers to make volunteering a family tradition. Locally, Family Volunteer Day is planned and implemented by VOLUNTEER Hampton Roads. In 2011, over 700 volunteers packed over 16,000 pounds of nonperishable food for 13 local nonprofits -- primarily homeless and
domestic abuse shelters.  VB is pleased to announce its participation once again in this cause.
