Kimberley Herson Timms

Kim is of counsel with Vandeventer Black and concentrates her law practice in workers’ compensation defense and labor and employment law. Her practice focuses on working with insurance carriers, employers, and self-insured businesses defending workers’ compensation claims filed pursuant to the Virginia Workers’ Compensation Act and the Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act. Kim works with risk managers, human resource professionals, and executives on preventive strategies and, if necessary, litigation. Kim joined Vandeventer Black in 1989. She has been a frequent lecturer on workers’ compensation related issues.

Kim attended St. Anne’s-Belfield School and received a B.A. (with distinction) from the University of Virginia. She received a J.D. from the University of Richmond School of Law where she was a member of the Moot Court Board and the National Moot Court Team.

Following law school, Kim served from 1986 to 1987 as law clerk to the Honorable Lawrence L. Koontz, Jr., former Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals of Virginia.

Kim’s first career prior to attending law school was as a secondary school English teacher and education still remains a key interest of hers. She has served ass president of the First Colonial High School PTSA and she has served in numerous capacities with the Virginia Beach PTA.

Kim’s civic and community service involvement is extensive, including volunteer work for the Relay for Life, Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts of America, the Virginia Beach PTA, the Norfolk City Union of the King’s Daughters, and St. Anne’s-Belfield School.
