vandeventer black partner, casey, named one of the influential women of virginia for 2010

NORFOLK, VA.  The law offices of Vandeventer Black are proud to announce that partner Deborah Mancoll Casey has been named one of the Influential Women of Virginia for 2010.  This distinguished award recognizes outstanding efforts of women in Virginia for making notable contributions to their profession, community, and society at large.

Casey concentrates her practice in Community Association Law, Creditors’ Rights, Contracts and Commercial Leasing. She is one of a small number of attorneys in the country who practice Community Association Law, a relatively new, trend setting area. Casey represents a large roster of community associations in the region.

Casey graduated from the Ivy League prep school Choate Rosemary Hall in 1981. She received her B.A. (cum laude) from Emory University in 1984 and her J.D. from The College of William and Mary School of Law in 1987.

Casey is Past President (2001) of the Community Associations Institute, Southeastern Virginia Chapter (SEVA-CAI), is a frequent speaker at the Chapter’s programs and was awarded the Chapter’s Distinguished Service Award (2002). In 2004, she was presented the SEVA-CAI Hall of Fame award. Casey was the first lawyer and remains one of only two lawyers from Southeastern Virginia to be admitted to CAI National’s prestigious College of Community Association Lawyers (CCAI), a specialty bar. The purpose of CCAL is to acknowledge CAI member attorneys who have distinguished themselves through contributions to the evolution or practice of community association law and who have committed themselves to high standards of professional and ethical conduct. She was elected to CAI’s Virginia Legislative Action Committee (VALAC) in 2004 and was elected Chair in 2008.

Casey is also listed in Virginia Business magazine’s Legal Elite for 2007, 2008 and 2009 and Super Lawyers 2010. She is AV ® rated by Martindale Hubbell Law Directory, which is the highest quality and ethics rating possible for attorneys.

Casey is based in the Firm’s Norfolk office.  For more information, visit www.vanblk.com or call (757) 446-8600.
