RICHMOND, VA. The law offices of Vandeventer Black LLP are pleased to announce that Christopher Colby has joined the firm’s Richmond, Virginia office. Chris’s practice focuses on General Litigation, Construction Law, Professional Liability Defense, Health Care Law, and Medical Malpractice Defense. He represents architects, contractors, engineers, doctors and nurses, and health care facilities in state and federal courts throughout Virginia. Chris is licensed to practice in all Virginia state courts, the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Virginia, and the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. He is a member of the Virginia, Richmond, and American Bar Associations.
Prior to joining Vandeventer Black, Chris worked at a Richmond-based insurance defense firm. He defended individuals, local and national businesses, and insurance companies in a variety of personal injury disputes in Virginia courts, and advised insurers on coverage issues. Additionally, Chris’s experience includes a judicial clerkship at the Circuit Court of the City of Norfolk, where he conducted research and drafted bench memoranda for judges in preparation for hearings on dispositive motions. He also provided research for and drafted judicial opinions.
Chris received his J.D. (cum laude) from Washington & Lee University School of Law. During law school, Chris was a third-year certified student attorney for the Community Legal Practice Center, a clinic that provides free legal representation on civil matters to low-income residents of the western part of Virginia. Chris tried his first cases as a student attorney, representing clients on landlord-tenant, zoning, divorce, and child custody issues.
