Vandeventer Black’s Coberly Re-Elected as Director of the Virginia Maritime Association

NORFOLK, VA. Vandeventer Black LLP is pleased to announce that Mark T. Coberly has been re-elected as a Director of the Virginia Maritime Association for 2011-2012.   The Virginia Maritime Association (VMA) has over 500 members and has a diverse committee structure prepared to address any subject relating to the overall operations of the Port. From physical harbor improvements to working with various governmental and legislative agencies, the Association strives to improve the Port of Hampton Roads.  The VMA was founded in 1920 for the purpose of promoting, protecting and encouraging the interests of commercial shipping.

Coberly is a partner with Vandeventer Black and chairs the firm’s Maritime Law Department. He concentrates his law practice in the areas of maritime and related litigation, and shipping-related administrative matters. His federal court trial experience includes major casualties such as collisions, pollution, cargo damage, and serious personal injuries; as well as transactional disputes including charter parties, ship repair contracts, tariffs and towing agreements. He also litigates maritime matters in state court including personal injury defense and transactional matters. Administrative law related to the marine industry such as Coast Guard, Customs and NOAA/NMFS are also areas in which Mark specializes.
