Henry is a partner of Vandeventer Black and concentrates his law practice in maritime, international business, construction and litigation.  Henry’s maritime and international practices encompass the representation of ship owners and their underwriters and P&I clubs, marine terminal operations both in the U.S. and abroad, stevedores, shipyards vessel construction and finance as well as the drafting of charter party agreements.  His practice involves both the corporate and litigation aspects of maritime and international business law.  He is also admitted to practice before the United States Court of International Trade.

He has extensive construction law and litigation experience, which focuses on marine construction including the construction of bridges, tunnels, bulkheads and piers and other forms of heavy construction.  Henry has been involved in the negotiation of construction contracts and has served as general counsel on several joint venture projects.  He is experienced in all corporate and litigation aspects of construction law.

Henry received a B.A. from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and a J.D. from the Western New England College School of Law.  He is a member of the Massachusetts (1979) and Virginia (1980) Bars and is admitted to practice before all state and federal courts in both jurisdictions.

Henry is a member of The Maritime Law Association of the United States, Southeastern Admiralty Law Institute (Director 1984-1986 and 1988-1990) and Hampton Roads Maritime Association. He was also a member of the Board of Visitors of Old Dominion University and served on its Executive Committee and chaired the Administration and Finance Committee (2000- 2003).  For the past 10 years, Henry has been an adjunct professor of Admiralty Law in the International Port Logistics and Management Institute which is a part of the MBA program at Old Dominion University.  He is also a member of the Maritime Advisory Board at the Charleston School of Law in Charleston, S.C.

Some of his notable engagements include representing a large, international construction company in the construction of the foundation phase of the new Woodrow Wilson Bridge and as counsel to the joint venture in the construction of the new Cooper River Bridge in Charleston, S.C.  In addition, he has represented vessel owners in major cases including the allision with a bridge in North Carolina which connected Cape Hatteras to the mainland.
