Kevin is a partner with Vandeventer Black, concentrating his practice in bankruptcy, debtor and creditor matters, and commercial litigation. He has over 15 years experience advising and representing clients in connection with bankruptcy proceedings, non-bankruptcy work-outs, and collections.
Kevin regularly represents creditors, debtors, and trustees in Chapter 7, 11, and 13 bankruptcy cases, and is experienced in virtually all aspects of such cases, including relief from the automatic stay, plan confirmation, enforcement of rights to cash collateral and adequate protection, prepetition claim allowance, enforcement and collection of administrative and post-petition claims, prosecution and defense of preference and other avoidance claims, prosecution and defense of dischargeablilty and discharge complaints, § 363 sales, and advice and representation with respect to various commercial transactions by and with debtors in bankruptcy.
Kevin’s non-bankruptcy practice focuses on collections matters and non-bankruptcy work-outs (representing both creditors and debtors).
Kevin received his B.A. from The College of William & Mary and his J.D. from Wake Forest University School of Law.
Kevin has recently represented:
- The chapter 7 trustee in liquidating a formerly publicly traded company and assisted the trustee in recovering over $1,000,000 for creditors
- Numerous landlords in relief from stay and administrative claim matters in chapter 7, 11 and 13 cases
- A chapter 11 debtor-in-possession that owned and managed office buildings
- The chapter 7 trustee in liquidating an entity which owned and operated a chain of convenience stores and assisted the trustee in recovering an amount sufficient to pay creditors in full
- Within the last two years, creditors, debtors, and trustees, as plaintiffs and defendants, in over 100 adversary proceedings and over 100 contested matters filed in connection with bankruptcy cases

Kevin serves on the Executive Committee of the Richmond Bar Association Bankruptcy Bar Section, currently as Treasurer, and is a member of the Bankruptcy Section of the Virginia State Bar. Kevin speaks frequently on bankruptcy matters at continuing legal education seminars and before various trade associations and has authored numerous articles and written materials on the subject of bankruptcy law.
