Renu is a partner with Vandeventer Black and concentrates her law practice in divorce and family law, as well as professional liability and practice matters for attorneys, accountants, architects and engineers. She also has a strong focus on construction, business and commercial, bankruptcy and suretyship and bond as well as health care matters. Renu has extensive experience in all phases of litigation, mediation and arbitration in state and federal courts, representing professionals in malpractice litigation as well as in contract disputes.
She received a B.A. from the University of Virginia and a J.D. from Boston University School of Law. Renu is licensed to practice in Virginia, California, the District of Columbia, U.S. District Courts for the Central, Southern, and Eastern Districts of California, U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia and U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.
Before coming to Virginia, Renu practiced at Epport & Richman in California, specializing in banking, bankruptcy and commercial litigation. She previously served as a law clerk for the civil law and motion judge in Los Angeles Superior Court from 1994 to 1995. She currently serves on the membership committee for the Richmond Bar Association.
Renu’s accomplishments include the successful resolution of several legal, accounting and architect/engineering claims including the dismissal of negligence and breach of fiduciary duty claims against an attorney on a Motion to Dismiss in Hewlette v. Hovis, 318 F.Supp.2d 332 (E.D. Va. 2004); the dismissal of a $60 million claim against an accountant alleging fraud, interference with business expectancy, negligence and conspiracy; defending an architect malpractice action in arbitration and recovery of all unpaid fees; and the dismissal of an architect in a federal action alleging professional negligence.
