Anita is a partner with Vandeventer Black and concentrates her law practice in business, health care, airports and estate planning and administration. Anita’s business practice focuses on representation of small businesses, hospitals and other health care providers and commercial airports. She presently serves as general counsel for the Norfolk International Airport. Her estate planning and administration practice concentrates in advising business owners in estate & succession planning and representation of commercial surety companies in bond forfeiture litigation.
Some of her notable engagements include representation of both the Norfolk International Airport and the Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters for over 25 years in a multitude of legal matters ranging from multimillion dollar tax exempt bond issues, real estate sales and leasing, director and officer liability, commercial contracts of all sizes, procurement and governance issues and federal regulation. She has also worked on a variety of real estate projects including the development and financing of shopping centers and office buildings.
Anita received a B.A. (with honors) from the University of Maryland and a J.D. from The College of William & Mary School of Law, where she was a member of the William & Mary Law Review.
Anita is a member of the Board of Directors of Towne Bank-Norfolk, Lake Taylor Transitional Care Hospital and the ACCESS Scholarship Foundation. She is also a member of the Virginia Board of Bar Examiners and the Board of Visitors of the College of William & Mary. She is a member and Past President of the Norfolk & Portsmouth and Virginia Bar Associations. Anita has been active in many civic and business organizations, including the Board of Directors of Hampton Roads Educational Telecommunications Association/WHRO (Immediate Past Chairman), Norfolk School Board (Past Chairman), Virginia Women Attorneys and American Health Lawyers Associations, Hampton Roads Tax Forum, Tidewater Estate Planning Council, American Inns of Court, Godwin Society of the Virginia Community College System, Virginia Law Foundation (Council of Fellows) and the Fourth Circuit Judicial Conference. She also serves on the Legal Committee of the Airports Council International - North America.
She was the 1992 recipient of the Professional Woman of Hampton Roads Award, the 2001 recipient of the Citizen Lawyer Award for The College of William & Mary and a 2003 recipient of Inside Business’ Women in Business Achievement Award. She was selected as one of Virginia Business’ “Virginia Legal Elite” in 2005 in the field of Health Law.
