Ed is a partner with Vandeventer Black and concentrates his law practice in maritime and general litigation matters.
His maritime practice focuses on the representation of ship owners and their underwriters, including both domestic and international insurance companies and P & I Clubs.
Ed is a seasoned litigator and has tried a broad spectrum of cases ranging from the defense of personal injury claims to recovery of collision damages. He specializes in federal litigation and has represented clients in courts throughout the eastern United States, including Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Washington D.C., Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, Florida and Puerto Rico.
Ed received two B.A. degrees from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and a J.D. from the University of Richmond School of Law, where he was Associate Editor for the University of Richmond Law Review. Ed was a Law Clerk for the Honorable Richard B. Kellam, United States District Court Judge, Norfolk Division, from 1990-1991.
He is a member of the bars of Virginia and North Carolina and is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, U.S. Courts of Appeals for the First, Second and Fourth Circuits and U.S. District Courts for the Eastern District of Virginia, the Eastern District of North Carolina and the Middle District of North Carolina.
Ed is a member of the Fourth Circuit Judicial Conference, the Southeastern Admiralty Law Institute, the Maritime Law Association of the United States and the Hampton Roads Maritime Association. He also serves as an associate editor for American Maritime Cases.
