Lisa is an attorney with Vandeventer Black and concentrates her law practice in Workers’ Compensation Defense and Labor and Employment Law. Her Workers’ Compensation practice focuses on working with insurance carriers and self-insured businesses and associations defending workers’ compensation claims filed pursuant to the Virginia Workers’ Compensation Act and the Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act. She has litigated multiple claims before the Virginia Workers’ Compensation Commission, Department of Labor and Office of Workers’ Compensation Programs. Lisa also works with risk managers, human resource professionals and executives on preventive strategies.
Lisa’s Employment Law practice focuses on a broad range of employment issues, including unemployment claims, wage and hour claims, discrimination, wrongful discharge and covenants not to compete. She advises employers on preventative measures such as handbooks and policies, evaluations and job descriptions, discipline and discharge, and legal compliance.
Lisa earned a B.S. in Economics from Clemson University and a J.D. (cum laude) from George Mason University School of Law, where she was an Editor of the Federal Circuit Bar Journal and the recipient of the Betty S. Murphy Award for Academic Excellence in Labor Law 2000-2001.
Prior to joining the firm, Lisa was an Attorney Advisor for the Honorable Daniel A. Sarno, Jr., Administrative Law Judge at the U.S. Department of Labor. Lisa also served as a legal intern for the Honorable Stanley P. Klein in Fairfax Circuit Court and interned for the U.S. Executive Office for Immigration Review in Arlington.
Prior to her law career, Lisa was a staff accountant with Capes Shipping Agencies, Inc. in Norfolk.
