Robert is an attorney with Vandeventer Black and concentrates his law practice in civil litigation and criminal matters.
Prior to joining Vandeventer Black, Robert served 13 years as Assistant District Attorney for the First Judicial District, which covers northeastern North Carolina. For most of that time, he handled the prosecution of all major felony cases in Dare and Currituck counties. He prosecuted a number of high-profile cases over the years, including one in which four teenagers were killed by a drunk driver; this case was covered live by Court TV.
While he handles all types of matters in his criminal practice, Robert’s focus is on major felony matters. His civil practice is also focused on the courtroom, with an emphasis on handling real estate litigation matters, including commercial leases, residential transactions, landlord-tenant disputes, land condemnations, contract disputes, homeowners associations and negligence actions.
Robert is licensed to practice in North Carolina. He attended Wake Forest University and earned a B.A. from Virginia Intermont College and a M.A. in Journalism from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He earned a J.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he received the American Jurisprudence Award in Constitutional Law, and served as an Articles Editor for the North Carolina Journal of International Law & Commercial Regulation. Robert also served as a law clerk for Judge Gerald Arnold on the North Carolina Court of Appeals.
Robert’s is dedicated to keeping clients aware of the status of their case and educating them on the process of their case. In addition, his journalism education and media relations experience prove to be beneficial to his clients.
Currently, Robert serves as legal advisor on a committee for the Dare County Educational Foundation, is the secretary of the First Judicial District Bar, and is a lector at St. Andrews by the Sea Episcopal Church in Nags Head.
