Environmental

Vandeventer Black’s Environmental Law team offers a full range of services to meet our clients’ needs in industrial applications, development projects, and commercial transactions. We represent clients in a broad range of litigation and enforcement matters as well as providing compliance advice and counseling on business aspects of environmental issues.

Our multidisciplinary approach provides our clients with industry-specific experience that bring the highest quality pool of legal talent to the table. We are recognized regionally in the areas of law that frequently involve environmental concerns, including construction, public contracts, maritime, real estate and development, utilities, municipal and utilities law.

In the area of general environmental law, we represent clients in regulatory matters, permit proceedings, due diligence investigations, audits, toxic tort litigation, insurance recovery proceedings and a host of corporate transactions.

Our environmental practice in property and business transactions frequently includes drafting contracts for environmental studies and remediation work, allocation of environmental risk in transactions, assessing environmental risks for developers and lenders, and environmental due diligence for mergers and acquisitions.

Environmental issues often encountered in our construction practice include disposal of hazardous substances and debris, regulatory compliance for abatement of asbestos, lead and other hazardous substances, and permitting issues for wetlands and waterfront development.

Our firm’s strong heritage in maritime law as well as our coastal locations gives our environmental team a unique vantage point on the issues facing businesses and industries in waterfront communities.  Our experience ranges from monitoring oil spill response, preparing and reviewing contingency plans to litigation of pollution penalty and damage actions.

Vandeventer Black offers litigation assistance and compliance advice in water and air pollution, CERCLA/Superfund, solid and hazardous waste, underground/aboveground storage tanks, Hazardous Materials/OSHA, SARA Title III and EPCRA, and toxic torts.

We have a broad combination of technical backgrounds and legal experience, with several of our members degreed in engineering and environmental sciences, or experience working for state and federal agencies involved in environmental regulation. We monitor changes in the law to ensure that environmental issues important to our clients’ businesses are promptly recognized.

At Vandeventer Black, we understand that environmental issues affect your business.  We work hand-in-hand with your team to provide prompt, experienced, and cost-efficient legal advice needed to effectively respond to these technically complex and urgent matters.
