Vandeventer Black Attorney Casey Elected to CAI National’s Virginia Legislative Action Committee
NORFOLK VA.
Vandeventer Black LLP partner, Deborah M. Casey, Esq., was recently elected to the Community Association Institute’s (CAI) Virginia Legislative Action Committee (VALAC).
Casey is one of only three delegates from southeastern Virginia to serve in this capacity. VALAC is a statewide committee of the national, non-profit Community Associations Institute (CAI), and is comprised of 9 delegates - three from each of the three CAI Virginia chapters (Washington Metropolitan, Central Virginia and Southeastern Virginia) - representing more than 200,000 homeowners in more than 1,000 communities.
The purpose of the Virginia Legislative Action Committee (VALAC) is to protect the interests of those living in condominium, cooperative and property owners associations by educating elected state lawmakers and monitoring, introducing and influencing legislation affecting community associations throughout Virginia.
Casey concentrates her practice in Community Association Law, Creditor’s Rights, Contracts and Commercial Leasing. She received her B.A (cum laude) from Emory University and her J.D. from the College of William and Mary School of Law. Casey served as President of the local chapter of CAI, SEVA-CAI, in 2001 and is the first and only lawyer from southeastern Virginia to gain admission to CAI national’s prestigious College of Community Association Lawyers. In 2003, Casey received the SEVA-CAI Distinguished Service Award, which recognizes long-term achievement and outstanding service to the Chapter.
